As a Senior Accountant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the financial operations of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, The Wilds, the Columbus Center for Wildlife Conservation, Zoombezi Bay, and the Safari Golf Club—ensuring transparency, compliance, and sustainability across our parks. Your expertise will help fuel conservation efforts, community engagement, and unforgettable guest experiences. Responsibilities About the Role The Senior Accountant provides support by preparing financial statements and tax returns, ensuring tax compliance, and performing general ledger accounting services for the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks under the direction of the Director of Finance / Controller. Essential Duties Financial Reporting & Compliance Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for all Parks Compile audit workpapers for all entities under the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks Prepare and interpret periodic financial reports for management Tax Preparation & Filing Prepare IRS forms, including 990 and 990-T Prepare and file sales and use tax, bed tax, CAT tax, and other required returns Manage annual 1099 filings Coordinate multi-state charitable solicitation license renewals Asset & Grant Management Manage real estate taxes and exemption documentation Assist with grant applications, audits, and reimbursement submissions Maintain accurate records and reporting for temporarily restricted assets Reconcile donor pledge balances with the Philanthropy team Internal Controls & Mission Support Perform all cash reconciliations Conduct internal reviews of transactions as requested by Management or the Board Support the mission and values of the organization Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Education & Certification High school diploma or equivalent required Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required CPA certification preferred Experience & Technical Skills 5 years’ experience in an accounting position Proven experience with non-profit accounting and IRS Forms 990/990T Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel Experience with automated accounting and budgeting systems Professional Competencies Strong financial and analytical skills High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information Work Environment & Requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and efficiently Commitment to guest service and cooperative team relationships Flexible schedule availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays Valid driver’s license with a good driving record Compliance with drug-free workplace policy and annual background checks
