To be successful in the position, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications inBusiness, Commerce, or relevant discipline
  • extensive experience in a financial accounting position
  • CA/CPA qualified or studying towards
  • Proof of Australian residency or citizenship

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a permanent, full time position working 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) at Council’s Nowra Administration Building. This role is responsible for leading an enthusiastic team of finance professionals to deliver responsive client services, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and a focus on best practices and continuous improvement.
The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

DUTIES

Reporting directly to the Manager - Reporting & Controls, the focus of this position is to:

  • To prepare, coordinate and ensure Councils Annual Financial Reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors and assist with their requests as necessary during the year.
  • Review accounting standards for Council compliance and implement changes to internal processes and reporting accordingly.
  • Ensure that Council meets its statutory taxation obligations including FBT, GST and Payroll Tax.
  • Provide professional advice to assist the Council in managing its taxation obligations including GST, FBT, and Payroll Tax.
  • Provide strategic financial reporting advice that, whilst being in line with accounting standards also creates the most desirable outcomes for Council.
  • Demonstrate a high commitment to quality performance to support the goal of achieving continuous improvement in all services.
