Position Summary
EMS is seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to oversee the daily, monthly, and yearly aspects of inventory accounting. This role is essential in ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting operational efficiency across our organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track inventory general ledger accounting, including preparation of monthly reconciliations and accruals.
  • Partner with Purchasing and Warehouse Operations teams to improve inventory process flow across multiple locations.
  • Develop and ensure timely, accurate processing of all inventory transactions.
  • Coordinate annual physical inventories.
  • Identify and recommend cost reduction, yield improvement, and process efficiencies to support company goals.
  • Review, analyze, and track Metal in Transit (MIT) and Return to Mill (RTM) transactions.
  • Prepare and analyze slow-moving and obsolete inventory reports.
  • Create, review, and present financial schedules, including month-end reports, flux analysis, and ad hoc schedules.
  • Consolidate and analyze inventory balances by product/site; perform monthly variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing and IT departments to resolve issues in production, purchasing, accounts payable, receiving, and shipping.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests from the Controller.
  • Perform other duties as needed to meet business requirements.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in inventory management and standard costing.

Experience, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment on when to escalate issues.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical problem-solver with keen attention to detail.
  • Skilled in data mining, reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and analytical communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills.
