Description **Candidates must be local to St. Louis, MO** Position Overview: The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in overseeing core accounting functions, ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across the organization. This position leads key components of the month-end close process, financial reporting, payroll accounting, and system integrations while supporting strategic initiatives and process improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in managing complex accounting environments, including multi-entity or multi-site operations. Key Responsibilities General Accounting & Close Management Lead the month-end close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow). Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and GAAP compliance. Prepare and review non-routine and complex journal entries related to acquisitions, revenue cycle activity, and other strategic initiatives. Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with established deadlines. Financial Reporting & Analysis Perform detailed variance analysis (budget vs. actual), providing actionable insights and commentary to senior leadership. Facilitate quarterly balance sheet reviews to ensure financial integrity and identify risk areas. Support leadership with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed. Payroll Accounting & Benefits Oversight Manage payroll accounting functions, including preparation and reconciliation of payroll-related journal entries and accruals (401(k) profit sharing, bonuses, PTO, and related liabilities). Serve as the primary liaison for payroll vendor (Insperity) matters, including issue resolution and system coordination. Partner with HR to onboard newly affiliated practices, ensuring payroll and benefits systems align with contractual obligations and tax regulations. Process Improvement & Automation Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and improve reporting accuracy. Lead automation initiatives, including treasury enhancements to support daily cash reconciliation. Leverage data warehouse capabilities to automate workflows, support financial assumptions, reconcile accounts receivable, and explain financial results. Integrations & System Implementation Support integration efforts for newly affiliated practices, ensuring seamless onboarding into shared accounting systems and processes. Assist with system transitions and ERP enhancements to improve scalability and financial visibility. Audit & Compliance Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to accounting, payroll, and financial reporting. Maintain and strengthen internal controls in preparation for internal and external audits. Serve as the primary point of contact for annual financial statement, benefit plan, and worker’s compensation audits. Ensure accounting policies and procedures remain current with regulatory and GAAP standards. Requirements Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 3+ years of progressive general accounting experience Strong knowledge of GAAP Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, data analysis functions) Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities Preferred: CPA or PMP certification Experience with multi-site or multi-entity payroll environments Healthcare industry experience Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAGE Intacct and BILL Core Competencies Accountability and ownership of financial processes High degree of accuracy and attention to detail Effective written and verbal communication Leadership and mentorship capabilities Strong project management and time management skills Proactive problem-solving mindset
