Description We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Construction Accountant to join our corporate finance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and providing key financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The Senior Construction Accountant will oversee various accounting functions, including managing general ledger activity, assisting with audits, processing payroll, and preparing financial reports. Duties and Responsibilities: Financial Reporting and Analysis: Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements including income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, and WIP reports. Also includes preparation of management reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial summaries. Assist in preparing the annual budget by analyzing historical data and identifying trends. Collaborate with department leaders to develop realistic forecasts and monitor budget adherence. Develop and deliver management reports, including key financial metrics, trend analysis, and recommendations for cost-saving initiatives. Provide variance analysis between actual results, budgets, and forecasts, with detailed explanations of deviations. Month end and Year-End Closing: Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles Prepare and review account reconciliations monthly, including reconciling job cost reports to the general ledger. Oversee the maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger. Reconcile the balance sheets to the subsidiary ledgers monthly. Review the cash reconciliations prepared by the staff accountant, ensuring proper recording of transactions. Manage cash flow projections to support liquidity planning and ensure adequate funding for operations. Conduct month-end and year-end closing processes, reconciling accounts, and resolving discrepancies promptly. Monitor accruals, prepaids, and other adjusting entries to maintain the integrity of financial data. Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors during financial audits, providing requested documentation and addressing queries. Prepare documentation for external auditors for annual financial statements. Year End Taxes: Assist the accounting firm in the preparation of federal and state tax returns. Ensure compliance with all tax laws, reporting requirements, and deadlines. Payroll Processing: Prepare and submit bi-weekly payroll via Paylocity, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws. Reconcile payroll accounts and address discrepancies in payroll fax filings or employee pay records. Prepare payroll journal entries and allocate labor costs using job costing methods. Process Improvements and Internal Controls: Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting processes. Document and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies. Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and best practices to enhance processes and maintain compliance. Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, strongly preferred. Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting or finance within the construction industry. Technical Proficiency: Experience with financial software and Microsoft Office. Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling. Experience with payroll systems preferred. Accounting Knowledge: Proficient in GAAP. Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve errors. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
