POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant position performs complex accounting and financial activities that require a high level of discretion and independent judgment. This position prepares regular financial reports, prepares and posts general ledger journal entries, coordinates and supports the audit process and requests for information, assists with short and long range financial planning, assists with the formulation, monitoring, and implementation of internal controls, and provides other information and analyses, primarily financial in nature, which assist in sound economic business decision making. Also provides back-up and training for lower level accountants as needed.

  • Skill in posting, editing, tracking, organizing and reviewing data/documents with precision and accuracy.
  • Advanced skill in exercising complex analysis, problem solving, and project management techniques under time constraints.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and systems and tax regulations;
  • Ability to interpret FASB, GAAP, IRS and FCA regulations and reporting requirements, as well as other Federal, State and local laws, and implement practices to ensure appropriate compliance.
  • Strong administration, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Adept in analyzing information and problem solving to formulate logical and objective conclusions.
  • Proficient in posting, editing, tracking, organizing, and reviewing data/documents with precision and accuracy.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounts payable and loan/lease accounting processes and financial statements.
  • Knowledge of SOX/ICFR accounting principles, controls, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, auditing principles and methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Skill in identifying and organizing resources in a systematic way to prioritize fluctuating workloads, optimize efficiency, and ensure achievement of Association goals.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Powerpoint) to create and edit data and communications. Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to converse and communicate with customers using the English language.
  • Skill in serving and working effectively with both external and internal customers in a professional, respectful manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting (25%)
  • Prepares recurring financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensures that data used to prepare financial reports is valid and accurate
  • Independently identifies, researches, and corrects discrepancies or errors in data
  • Interprets and incorporates FASB, GAAP, IRS, FCA, and other such guidance into financial reports
  • Proactively manages the financial reporting workload and ensures that all reports are prepared and submitted timely
  • Financial Analysis (25%)
  • Performs unstructured analysis of financial data as requested by management
  • Independently identifies new analysis project opportunities and enhances current analyses
  • Completes regular and recurring analysis tasks (for ex. Monthly balance sheet reconciliations and variance analyses)
  • Continuously works to ensure that financial analyses performed are impactful and efficient
  • Arrives at a satisfactory conclusion when performing analyses; does not hand off incomplete or partially completed work to supervisors.
  • Is able to self-manage workload and keep supervisors appraised of project status on a regular basis ensuring continual and timely movement towards satisfactory completion.
  • Independently develops goals, objectives, and strategies for analysis projects.
  • Develops expert level knowledge of Association finance and accounting topics.
  • Internal Controls Financial Accounting (ICFR) (15%)
  • Maintains the Association’s ICFR control listing (Risk Control Matrix)
  • Ensures that ICFR control completion documentation is sufficient and appropriate
  • Receives and archives ICFR control completion evidence
  • Completes quarterly ICFR certification process with control owners and updates ICFR documentation accordingly (for ex. Risk Control Matrix, Process documentation workflows, etc.)
  • Ensures that the Association considers and implements guidance and utilizes ICFR tools provided by ICFR workgroups and external auditors
  • Maintains the Summary of Aggregated Deficiencies (SAD) report and disseminates finalized report to external and internal parties in a timely manner
  • Confirms that all relevant SOC1 Complementary User Entity Controls (CUECs) are in place and functioning appropriately
  • Finance Department Teamwork & Collaboration (10%)
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to lower level staff
  • Provides backup for department tasks when necessary
  • Cross trains periodically on department tasks to keep skill set “fresh”
  • Completes specific sub-tasks in processes primarily owned by other team members (for ex. New vendor review during AP cycle)
  • Continuously looks for opportunities to delegate simpler work to lower level staff and takes on new, more complex assignments. Takes ownership of delegation process and provides training as needed to successfully delegate work assignments.

  • Provides documentation and responds to questions from auditors and reviewers
  • Works to identify and implement efficiencies and improvements to the audit process
