The Senior Accountant provides advanced accounting and reporting support for all departments across the organization. Assists with the month end close process, completes journal entries, reviews accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll transactions to ensure timely and accurate posting. Assists the Controller in financial statement review as well as variance analysis and communication with various department managers about their financials. Assists with preparing analysis, creates data models, and collaborates with department leaders to gather data. Data analysis and reporting trends are key components of this position with a heavy emphasis on our Retail Operations department.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Advanced skills using Jet Reports and Excel for data extraction, data modeling and financial reporting.
  • Experience with reporting and budgeting tools.
  • Must complete a successful criminal background check and dependent adult and child abuse background check.
  • Advanced knowledge of general accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, strong analytical, mathematical, and accounting skills.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively use problem solving skills and creativity.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting including reporting, consolidation, financial analysis, and budgeting required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in accounting practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of stationary work at a desk and on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds infrequently.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains general ledger on an ongoing basis by assuring all accounts are reconciled monthly.
  • Processes the monthly bank reconciliations and required entries.
  • Designs, builds, and prepares internal and external financial reports.
  • Assists Controller in cash management and cash flow analysis.
  • Assists in preparing annual audit workpapers and responding to audit questions.
  • Partners with Controller to prepare department budgets; assists with accounting reporting software and processes.
  • Prepares budgeting tools to expedite the calculation of compensation and other operating expenses.
  • Develops spreadsheet models used to analyze data for use by senior management.
  • Prepares forecasts and other ad hoc reports used by senior management to propose financial decisions.
  • Improves efficiencies in the financial process by using Excel data warehouses and related tools.
  • Analyzes and reports budget variances to ensure transactions are properly recorded.
  • Partners with Controller and department leaders to maintain new and existing KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) to monitor business and industry trends.
  • Performs general account analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid accounts and recommends improvements.
  • Tracks, reconciles, and reports investment performance by reconciling monthly broker statements.
  • Monitors and maintains the fixed asset system monthly.
  • Provides reporting and analysis of daily sales and POS (point of sale) software data.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
