As a senior accountant I, you will be responsible for accounting activities related to Best Buy Protection offerings including extended warranty fulfilment, manufacturer’s warranty, Geek Squad repair and installation services including all related labour and service parts reclasses and will own Accounts Receivable subledger control account reconciliation.
In this role, the successful candidate is needed to be in the greater Vancouver, BC area, where we practice a remote-first working model, leveraging in person interactions for strategic, collaborative, and social purposes.

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure that month-end financial information is accurate and adequately supported by preparing journal entries, variance analyses and completing balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Perform various month-end calculations, analyze large volumes of complex data, prepare and maintain schedules, templates, and data models relating to your specific area of accounting
  • Execute periodic key assumptions review and revenue recognition model inputs update for our extended warranty offerings
  • Conduct US GAAP research in more complex areas of accounting (e.g. revenue recognition)
  • Prepare deferred services revenue annual budgets and assist with preparation of quarterly and annual financial reporting disclosure schedules and other revenue related reporting as assigned
  • Maintain a smooth proactive working relationship with associates and management in various groups
  • Create and/or maintain process documentation (SOPs), updating regularly with new assumptions and methodologies developed
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement providing advice and recommendations on current business processes
  • Participate in special projects when revenue recognition expertise is needed, providing both technical and/or operational knowledge

What we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of progressive accounting experience at a senior level in a medium to large organization
  • CPA designation or pursuing CPA or related accounting designation
  • Strong background in the practical application of ASC 606 Revenue Recognition principles or IFRS 15
  • Advanced MS Excel, strong systems aptitude
  • Experience implementing change and improving existing systems and processes
