Job Summary The Senior Accountant II is a technically oriented accounting professional who carries dual accountability: full-cycle close ownership for an assigned entity portfolio, and organization-wide stewardship of financial systems, consolidated reporting, and compliance infrastructure. Both dimensions of the role are equally weighted — entity accounting and systems ownership are primary responsibilities, not a primary and a secondary. The entity portfolio assigned to this role is intentionally sized to protect capacity for systems, ERP implementation, and reporting work. Entity assignments are determined by the CFO and may be adjusted over time; the systems, reporting, and compliance ownership anchored to this role does not change with entity reassignment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities · Own the full monthly, quarter-end, and year-end close for an assigned portfolio of entities, including all standard and non-routine journal entries and accruals · Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations; resolve complex or aged reconciling items independently · Manage AP and AR for assigned entities: invoice coding and approval workflow, collections follow-up, and period-end cut-off accuracy · Maintain fixed asset schedules, depreciation, and lease accounting (ASC 842) for assigned entities · Stand up new entity accounting environments as directed, instance configuration, chart of accounts design, and opening balance entry · Own the consolidated financial reporting package for CFO review following all entity closes · Prepare and coordinate variance analysis and management commentary across assigned entities; present findings to CFO independently · Own the organization-wide sales tax compliance calendar, multi-state return preparation, and nexus monitoring (TaxJar) · Lead resolution of state and local tax notices, audit inquiries, and voluntary disclosure agreements; escalate only matters with material legal or financial implications · Own payroll tax reconciliation and compliance; oversee W-2 and 1099 preparation and filing · Serve as the CFO’s primary implementation partner on the ERP conversion project. · Administer financial systems: chart of accounts governance, user access controls, data integrity, and report architecture · Design and maintain custom financial reports and dashboards to support CFO and management decision-making Oversee documentation of accounting policies, close checklists, and standard procedures; support cross-training and process continuity Requirements Qualifications – Education, Experience, License/Certifications: · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CPA-eligible preferred · 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience; manufacturing, print, or multi-entity environment strongly preferred · Demonstrated experience owning the full close cycle for multiple entities with intercompany activity · ERP system experience required; QuickBooks Desktop proficiency highly desired; Microsoft Business Central or comparable ERP a strong plus · Experience standing up or migrating an accounting system instance preferred · Working knowledge of multi-state sales tax compliance; TaxJar or similar platform experience preferred · Public accounting experience a plus Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: · Strong technical accounting foundation: complex journal entries, intercompany eliminations, ASC 842 lease accounting, and consolidated financial reporting · Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and Excel for financial analysis and reporting · Ability to manage a multi-entity close cycle and parallel compliance and systems workstreams concurrently · Comfortable resolving complex accounting, compliance, and systems issues independently; escalates with appropriate judgment · Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to present financial information to CFO and executive stakeholders Physical Requirements: · Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods · Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail during peak close and audit periods · Flexibility to work extended hours as business needs require · Occasional lifting of office materials up to 15 pounds Compensation: The base compensation range for this full-time position is $95,000 – $120,000 per year plus benefits. Compensation ranges are determined by various factors, including role, experience, and location. The pay range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position.
