POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant reports to the Accounting Director and is responsible for preparing and/or reviewing internal and external financial information, including monthly and quarterly reports, executive summaries, projections, and department budgets. Key responsibilities include: (1) documenting policies and processes and developing related reporting tools, (2) collaborating with partners to consolidate financial data, record eliminations, and establish/monitor burden rates (3) preparing both standard and ad hoc reports for key leaders and external customers, (4) assisting with the oversight of the annual external audit, and (5) proactively identifying opportunities for improvements and efficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting.
  • CPA or MBA preferred, with 5+ years of progressive experience in corporate or public accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in financial reporting or auditing is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, with the ability to implement new accounting procedures, standards, and policies.
  • Strong accounting, critical thinking, advanced analytical, research, and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and operate proactively and independently.
  • Collaborates effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced Excel skills required, including proficiency in creating and managing pivot tables, lookup/reference functions, as well as statistical and logical functions.

Responsibilities
  • Develop financial reporting policies, procedures, and tools for use through the organization.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end close tasks, including cost allocation, elimination entries, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and consolidate financial information, including: (1) monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external financial reports, (2) quarterly consolidated and corporate projections and budgets, and (3) monthly consolidated and regional capital spending reports.
  • Serve as the main expert on elimination entries and the primary point of contact for management fee and burden rate calculations.
  • Prepare journal entries and certain reconciliations and reports.
  • Oversee the fixed assets and lease reporting as well as capital budgets for the enterprise.
  • Assist with managing the annual independent audit process - coordinating activities between regional teams, corporate departments, and independent auditors.
  • Ensure timely responses to region on Requests for Proposal information.
  • Conduct accounting research as necessary, especially in relation to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Assist in enhancing, developing, and implementing financial systems, processes, and controls to support the organization’s financial reporting and internal management needs.
  • Ad hoc special projects and reports, as needed.
