  • Degree in accounting, finance, or in a related field with experience in a public setting PREFERRED.
  • Previous experience in public accounting highly preferred.
  • Previous experience as an accountant, assistant controller, or in a similar role.
  • Professional certification such as CPA, CFM, or CMA preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of GAAP and relevant financial accounting regulations.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of accounting software programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for working under the direction of a controller and assist with the preparation of financial statements, budget reports, and internal control systems. The Senior Accountant’s duties also include managing payroll, accounts payable/receivable, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial audits. You must be able to work independently and with the highest levels of integrity. To be successful as a Senior Accountant, you should have exceptional accounting skills and knowledge of relevant industry regulations. Expected to be well-organized and have excellent management skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing the monthly and year-end close process.
  • Prepares and reviews day-to-day and month end close entries, including fringe, indirect, investment allocations and grant allocations.
  • Preparing and consolidating financial statements and reports.
  • Assisting with the development and evaluation of budgets and preparing budget reports.
  • Overseeing the revenue recognition process, expenses, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, identifying discrepancies, and reconciling accounts.
  • Maintaining General Ledger accounts and preparing journal entries and other adjusting entries.
  • Lead in preparation of schedules and support for the annual 990 tax filings.
  • Lead in preparations for the annual audit, communicating with auditors, preparing schedules, financial statements, and notes, responding to auditors’ inquiries.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements including statement of financial position, statement of activities, statement of cashflow, statement of functional expenses and other reporting.
  • Review accounting information and internal controls to ensure compliance with US GAAP and Uniform Guidance.
  • Partner with other departments to ensure accuracy and timely completion of month-end close.
  • Assist with the management of contract & grant administration function and guide division managers in interpretation of and compliance with award regulations including but not limited to 2 CRF Uniform Guidance 200.
  • As needed, preparation of reports for insurance company and other vendors.
  • Researching, identifying, developing, and implementing appropriate internal financial management policies, procedures, and systems of internal controls.
  • Assist with cash management, revenue recognition, and payables management.
  • Review of proper coding and posting of financial transactions.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly invoicing and drawdowns for specific awards as needed.
  • Lead and mentor our growing Finance team.
