The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Under the direction of an Associate Accountant, the incumbent must be able to perform the following essential functions: • Maintain a working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures in the development, examination, review and analysis of financial and accounting records including the preparation of reports, statements and reconciliations. • Provide documentation and reports to assist with audit requests. • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize work based on various deadlines. • Address inquiries from Treasury, bank and agency personnel regarding various accounts. • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. • Maintain comprehensive documentation of unit policies and procedures. • Update and maintain various databases. • Oversight and problem resolution on production of checks and electronic payments. • Perform other related accounting activities and special projects as required. • Adhere to the Department’s time and attendance requirements

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS): For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE NY HELPS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position may be filled as a two-year traineeship.
