JOB OVERVIEW

We are an established and growing accountancy practice looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Accountant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our next phase of growth, working closely with the Director, managing your own portfolio of small business clients, and contributing to the development of junior staff.
You will have a minimum of 3 years’ public practice experience, excellent technical skills, and the confidence to work independently while delivering exceptional client service. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in SME accounts preparation in accounting practices, with proficiency in various accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage and Xero.

EXPERIENCE

  • Essential: Minimum 3 years’ experience in an accountancy practice, preparing accounts from incomplete records.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting systems, UK tax laws, and accounting standards for small businesses.
  • Proficient in software such as TaxCalc and Xero .
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • A proactive approach and willingness to embrace new technology.
    Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
    Pay: £35,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
    Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and finalise statutory accounts, sole trader and partnership accounts, and management accounts for Director review.
  • Prepare and finalise personal, partnership, and corporation tax returns, income & expenditure accounts, and rental accounts, providing clear tax advice to clients.
  • Complete VAT returns for a variety of clients.
  • Submit IXBRL accounts, CT600s, and self-assessment tax returns to HMRC; file confirmation statements with Companies House; liaise with HMRC and Companies House.
  • Support the Director with client queries, job planning, and tax investigations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior/semi-senior staff, including appraisals and professional development plans.
  • Act as the final reviewer on year-end and other compliance work, presenting and explaining accounts directly to clients.
