About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Services team on a part-time basis.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will operate as an independent financial specialist and trusted adviser, providing strategic and operational oversight of the organisation’s financial function.

This is a key role with responsibility for financial management, reporting, budgeting, compliance, funding acquittals, audit coordination, financial controls and advice to the CEO, Executive, Managers and Board.

The role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys working independently, can provide sound professional judgement and is confident translating complex financial information into practical advice that supports organisational sustainability and decision-making.

About the Opportunity

This position is 0.5 FTE, working:

  • 3 days one week
  • 2 days the alternate week

We are ideally seeking a candidate who lives in the Pilbara, with candidates based in Karratha, Port Hedland, Newman or Roebourne encouraged to apply.

We will also consider remote working arrangements for the right candidate, depending on experience, capability and the organisation's operational requirements.

A pro rata location allowance is available to employees who live in the Pilbara, in accordance with the applicable SACS Award provisions. The location allowance is not available to employees who do not live in the Pilbara.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant will:

  • Lead the organisation’s accounting function and maintain the integrity, accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Complete and/or oversee month-end and end-of-year processing.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, management accounts, variance analysis, cash flow forecasts and financial commentary.
  • Lead preparation of the annual organisational budget and provide forecasting and scenario analysis.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and funding agreements.
  • Prepare and coordinate statutory obligations, including BAS, PAYG, superannuation and FBT requirements.
  • Prepare and coordinate financial acquittals for government, philanthropic and other funding agreements.
  • Lead audit preparation and coordinate with external accountants, auditors, banks, insurers, funders and regulators.
  • Develop, implement and review financial policies, procedures, internal controls, delegations, templates and workflows.
  • Provide expert financial advice to the CEO, Executive, managers and Board.
  • Identify financial risks, emerging issues and opportunities and provide practical recommendations.
  • Build financial capability across the organisation through clear communication, guidance and training.
  • Support strategic planning, risk management and major organisational initiatives through expert financial advice.
