We’re recruiting for an experienced activities coordinator (ideally within mental health) for a lovely nursing home near Tooting.

SKILLS:

· A friendly, kind, patient and compassionate personality.
· Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.
· The ability to understand and follow instructions.
· Good literacy, numeracy, writing and computer skills.
· Ability to manage staff and delegate duties where necessary.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • plan and organise engagement/activities for service users both in-house and in the community to help them live full and active lives.
  • Plan weekly, monthly and an annual schedule of activities, considering the residents’ interests and abilities to encourage individuality and provide person centred care.
  • To assist in meeting the social needs of service users in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.
  • To tailor activities to focus on the holistic wellbeing of the service users, looking at their emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological need
  • To work alongside all staff within Rosedene Nursing home to assist in the engagement of service users in social activities.
  • · To delegate duties and manage colleagues – Engagement officer assistant
  • Promoting diversity and inclusion within the care home celebrating various holidays and awareness days to regularly rotate activities.
  • To provide service users the opportunity to maintain regular contact with family members.
  • To assist service users to seek friendship and pleasure in each other’s company and in the company of their friends, relatives and staff.
  • Have access to a range of activities both internal and external should the service user wish to access them.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create individualised person-centred engagement care plans for each service user.
  • Plan weekly, monthly and an annual schedule of activities, considering the residents’ interests and abilities to encourage individuality and provide person centred care.
  • Plan social events, birthday parties, and anniversaries
  • Plan trips to the local community, including tea rooms, shopping centres, bowling, farm, garden centres etc.
  • Connect residents with local community groups and businesses
  • Find volunteers to help with social activities and engagement with residents.
  • Encourage residents to maintain their independence and dignity
  • Celebrate national holidays and awareness days
  • Create new ideas for fundraising and network with local businesses
  • Store equipment and activities safely and replenish stock as needed
  • Report any incidents or accidents to senior staff
  • Assist clients with personal needs should the occasion arise.
  • Help clients with mobility problems and other physical disabilities; help in the care and use of aids and personal equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of meals, serve meals; assist clients at meal times if required.
  • Weekly inhouse Trolley shop.
  • Answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone; greet visitors.
  • Read and write reports on the person-centred software devices.
  • Take part in staff /service user/relative meetings and also in training sessions as required.
  • To hold a suitable Health & Safety Certificate and suitable Food & Hygiene Certificate.
  • To perform such other reasonable duties as may be required.
