SENIOR ACTUARIAL CONSULTANT (GENERAL INSURANCE SECTOR)Company: SRS Europe Limited (“SRS”)
Job Description: Work within our European actuarial consulting team to provide actuarial support to a range of captive and commercial insurers globally.
Job Role: We are seeking a highly skilled, qualified actuary, with at least six years’ experience, to join our team. The ideal candidate will have previously held Solvency II Actuarial Function roles and be familiar with the reserving and regulatory requirements of European domiciled non-life (re)insurance companies. The ability to service both English and French speaking clients is highly valuable. The role provides the individual to opportunity to work from one of our European offices, or to work from home with regular visits to our office locations and frequent in person meetings with European team members.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Education

  • Strong academic record including:
  • Numerical degree at a minimum of bachelor level (or equivalent).
  • Full professional qualification (i.e. IFoA or similar).
  • A member in good standing of an actuarial institute (i.e. IFoA or similar).
  • Programming skills (e.g. R, Phyton, VBA)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of working within the non-life insurance industry for a consultancy firm or directly for a(re)insurance undertaking or brokerage.
  • Ability to hold, and experience in holding, Actuarial Function (Solvency II) titles. To include:
  • Completion and review of technical provisions and associated processes.
  • Completion and review of standard formula capital calculations and associated processes.
  • Completion and review of the required pillar 3 reporting and disclosures.
  • Ability to sign, and experience in signing, independent reserve reviews for commercial lines of business, operating globally.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical, technical and communication skills (both written and oral) with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-actuarial stakeholders.
  • Fluent in English, French, (Italian and German a distinct advantage).
  • Ability to quickly adapt to using new actuarial software and tools.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and manage multiple projects and tasks efficiently.
  • Problem-solving skills with a creative and proactive approach.

Preferred Experience, Beneficial but not Crucial

  • Experience in insurance pricing and costing model and tool development.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS 17 and experience in completing disclosures.
  • Experience in the regulatory reporting requirements for offshore territories such as Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Barbados and Canada.
  • Modelling and pricing reinsurance contracts including experience with structured reinsurance and parametric (re)insurance.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Lead and manage Solvency II-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes. Work independently, or with our highly skilled account managers and analysts / actuarial team colleagues to manage our clients operating under Solvency II legislation (or equivalent). Work to include production of technical provisions, calculation of Solvency Capital Requirements, opining on underwriting and reinsurance arrangements, contribution to the effective implementation of the risk management system and completing relevant disclosures.
  • Head of Actuarial Function: Hold the position of Head of Actuarial Function (or equivalent) for insurance companies domiciled in onshore European domiciles.
  • Client Advisory: Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, providing expert advice on Solvency II compliance, including risk management, capital requirements, and regulatory reporting.
  • Reserving Studies: Lead reserving projects for captives and small/medium sized commercial non-life insurance companies, communicating the findings to stakeholders verbally and in writing.
  • Risk Assessment and Quantification & ORSA processes: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop models to quantify risks in line with Solvency II standards. Assist clients in developing and implementing their Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) processes, including the preparation of ORSA reports.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with client teams, including finance, risk management, and compliance, to ensure a cohesive approach to Solvency II implementation.
  • Training and Development: Share knowledge and experience with team members and clients on Solvency II-related topics. Play a lead role in SRS’s Solvency II development streams, ensuring continued compliance with any regulatory updates. Attend training and CPD events.
  • Actuarial Consulting: Consult and advise on a range of actuarial offerings for captives and commercial insurance companies to include Risk Finance Optimisation and Multi-Line/Year modelling.
  • Peer Reviews: Conduct peer-reviews over a range of actuarial offerings.
