The Opportunity We are looking for a Senior Advisor UG Technology to play a leading role in helping us define and achieve our underground mobile equipment technology strategy. The primary focus of this role is to establish and sustain the systems and capability needed to deliver value-adding technology and automation projects in the mobile equipment context. Our vision is to build a world-class technology and automation capability, including people, processes, and technology, which will support underground mining performance and safety, and play a key role in achieving mining targets through the use of modern technology. The Mobile Technology Team focuses on the delivery of both technologies and capability, to ensure that the Oyu Tolgoi mine achieves world-class performance and safety outcomes in our mobile fleet. What the role entails This role is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career on a truly global project. FIFO to site or FIFO internationally on a 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster. The role will be reporting to the Manager Mobile Maintenance. • Guide the implementation of our underground remote and automated mobile equipment strategy. • Support and mentor cross-functional teams of engineers, analysts, and third-party technology vendors, with particular focus on developing national talent. • Establish partnerships that drive business value priorities, and pioneer technology solutions that will provide value. • Build knowledge, understanding, and expertise in remote and automated equipment within the UG Operations team. • Identify and scope potential projects – working from the initial concept, investigate the problem to be solved, the decision to be changed, the data and systems that underpin the business, and then architect, design, and deliver products that deliver the objective. • Solve complex and challenging problems by working closely with operators, maintainers, engineers, and other subject-matter experts. • Work to establish the roadmap, roles, capabilities, skills, and culture required for the success of remote and automated equipment within the underground mining organisation. • Develop collaborative working relationships with various Rio Tinto Center of Excellence and Product Group teams and vendor partners, to gain broader business context and to facilitate collaborative success. What you will need for this role To succeed in this role, you will have: • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent). • Industry or vendor certification in relevant technologies, products, or systems. • Functional safety engineer certification. • Successful completion of recognized mining technology-related curriculum. • Proven experience in mining technology design, development, implementation, and delivery. • Experience in operational technology project delivery, maintenance, and support. • Experience in mining or construction industry technology delivery. • Experience in engineering or software development. • 10+ years of work experience in Engineering or a related field, including 7 or more years working with mining automation or process control technology, or have worked in a related professional engineering discipline. • Experience with current underground technologies used to support Automation and Remote Control, HSE, Vehicle Interaction Management CAS, and PD Systems. • Experience with multiple mining technologies and functional areas. • Experience in a Rio Tinto managed operation, including familiarity with standards, processes, and procedures. • Exceptional engineering and technical skills. • Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills. • Experience working in a complex, fast-paced environment. • Positive attitude and willingness to take on challenges. • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to work across disciplines to develop practical solutions. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Experience working in multicultural teams and a commitment to supporting national talent development.
