KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develops methods, techniques, and models to ensure successful delivery and execution of work that is of high enterprise impact, risk, and complexity, in support of evidence-based decision-making for business transformation. Including researching and analyzing transit service, zero-emission vehicle attributes, operations, charging, trends and issues.
Conducts feasibility studies to assess the viability and effectiveness of incorporating zero-emission buses and other technologies into transit operations and provide recommendations to optimize the operation and deployment of zero-emission buses including changes to operating workflow and staffing.
Develops and maintains methodologies and parameters for energy modelling, ensuring accuracy and relevance to zero-emission bus deployments including Standardizing parameters and assumptions for both external modelling work and internal tools to facilitate consistency and reliability in analyses.
Collaborates and provides strategic guidance and technical expertise to senior leaders and professionals across the organization on zero-emission vehicles, performance, issues, risks and trends to influence decisions.
Develops technical reports, business cases and presentation materials to support discussions with Executives, internal and external stakeholders on business transformation.
Supports procurement activities and provides functional requirements for application systems related to zero-emission technologies.
Oversees the work of contractors and consultants, typically related to zero-emission bus modelling and deployment, and provides work direction, ensuring quality and alignment with organizational objectives.
Supports all programs and program managers within Low Carbon Fleet Programs in decision-making for business transformation activities.
Manages reporting staff, including selection, development, coaching, managing performance, and all other people management practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The requirements for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a university degree in engineering, data science, planning, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
Typically requires seven (7) years prior experience researching and analyzing data, extracting information, reporting results, as well as, producing presentation material and publications. Professional Engineering designation or eligible to register as a P. Eng is an asset along with experience in the transportation field.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of zero-emission bus technologies, including battery electric buses, hydrogen fuel cell buses, and charging infrastructure.
Knowledge of resiliency, greenhouse gas analysis and reporting are considered beneficial.
Familiarity with transit operations, scheduling, and fleet management principles.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities to address critical and high-impact issues.
Due to the strategic nature of this work, confidentiality is required.
Solid written and verbal communication skills to write and deliver well-prepared comments, procedures, reports, and presentations.
Advanced skills in managing complex, high risk and high-uncertainty challenges where solutions are unknown, unproven, or developing.
Proficiency in tools like Power BI and Tableau, and familiarity with transit software to develop Key Performance Indicators and Metrics are also considered beneficial.
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Senior Advisor, Zero Emissions is responsible for analyzing energy and other technology or operational attributes to support decision-making and business transformation to support the organization’s goal of achieving zero tailpipe emissions by 2040 and rapidly expanding deployment of zero-emission buses. This role develops technical reports and provides strategic and technical guidance across the organization on zero-emission vehicles, performance, issues, risks, and trends.
