About this job
About Us
UnternehmerTUM is Europe's leading center for innovation and entrepreneurship – and we are currently building the technological foundation for how an entire organization can use AI productively, securely, and effectively. As an AI Architect, you will shape this foundation: from the fundamental stack decision to the reference implementation that other teams can use as a model. You will make architectural decisions with far-reaching consequences for the entire company – and remain actively involved in coding the system yourself.
Your tasks
With us, you make architectural decisions with real impact: You work at the interface between AI responsibility, specialist departments, IT and the Trusted AI Board – and remain hands-on in the implementation, instead of just drawing up concepts.
- Setting AI architecture & stack decisions (30%): You define company-wide principles, make fundamental stack decisions, and establish patterns that other teams can reuse.
- Evaluate & further develop the tech approach (15%): You critically examine our current approach and decide, with justification, whether it should be confirmed, refined or replaced – including the migration path.
- Design central AI platform (25%): You will build the integration and gateway architecture as well as a provider-neutral model policy on which the entire company is based.
- Setting the security and data access baseline (15%): You will develop security standards together with data owners and the CISO and represent the architectural decisions in the Trusted AI Board.
- Providing guidance to the organization (15%): You provide templates and reference implementations and guide teams through architecture reviews and office hours.
Your profile
- 7+ years of experience in production software, including several years as an architect or tech lead
- 2+ years of experience with LLM/RAG systems in production environments
- Experience with integration architecture in heterogeneous SaaS landscapes (API gateways, authentication, data access)
- Confident handling of agent-based tooling, e.g., Claude Code or similar tools
- Fluent English (at least B2 level)
- Enjoyment in enforcing standards in an established, decentralized organization through persuasion rather than instruction.
- Ideally, you also have a deep understanding of retrieval architectures, agent orchestration, and evaluation-driven development, and experience in convincing both engineering teams and management of architectural decisions.
Your benefits
- Annual, generous training budget and catalog for internal training courses, external seminars, conferences and keynote speeches
- Plenty of room for creativity, initiative and responsibility
- Unlimited access to our high-tech workshop "MakerSpace"
- Flexible working hours and the option to work from home allow for a good work-life balance.
- Access to TU daycare places, part-time and parental leave models, childcare allowance
- Flexible monthly mobility budget via the Moovster app (MVG, Lime, Uber, Jobrad, etc.)
- Extensive sports program (yoga, Pilates, mindfulness, CrossFit, Wellpass membership, and access to TUM sports facilities)
