SUPERVISION (INSURANCE) DEPARTMENT

Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as a Senior Analyst in our Supervision (Insurance) Department. Reporting to a Principal, the Senior Analyst will be responsible for performing management reviews of a compliance nature, statutory return analysis, solvency capital evaluation and monitoring of selected businesses. They will report the findings and recommendations to the Principal to discuss and develop an action plan.

APPLICANTS FOR THIS POSITION ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A TECHNICAL AND BUSINESS BACKGROUND. THEREFORE, THE POST-HOLDER MUST HOLD:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, finance or insurance-related field and/or equivalent qualifications in insurance, finance, actuarial or accounting from a recognised institution or professional body
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the insurance, financial services industry and/or work experience with a financial regulatory body

Responsibilities
  • Undertaking on-site reviews, supervisory colleges and analysis of selected businesses and their respective capital models by utilising various risk assessment methodologies and governance to evaluate compliance with existing laws, regulations, policies, plans and procedures
  • Identifying risk issues and formulating reports on findings for submission and discussion with management
  • Developing agendas and schedules and attending prudential meetings with financial entities to discuss findings of the review, minute discussions/decisions and developing a corrective action plan as appropriate
  • Undertaking projects relating to the Departments’ supervisory and regulatory responsibilities, as requested
  • Monitoring the market with a specific focus on developments in the insurance industry (local and international), regulatory bodies/regimes, accounting standards, as well as market information on insurance companies via monitoring of key indicators, newspapers, periodicals, media and relevant websites
  • Monitoring identified high-risk registrants with compliance issues by reviewing memoranda and timely direct follow-up with company representatives
  • Reviewing applications in accordance with existing legislation
  • Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by management in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post
