JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
AAM is searching for a Senior Analytical Engineer - MBD to join our team. This position will be based out of our Advanced Technology Development Center in Detroit, MI.
As a Senior Analytical Engineer, you will be responsible for developing physics-based and high-fidelity multibody dynamics models of driveline products. You will work independently with limited supervision to evaluate product performance, identify risks, and provide critical design recommendations through optimization studies to ensure our products meet and exceed customer specifications.
The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on dynamics and possesses hands-on experience with Adams-Simulink co-simulation. They are proficient in automation scripting using Adams Macro/Subroutine, Python, and MATLAB, and are familiar with full-vehicle integration using Adams/Car.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Develop and validate complex, high-fidelity Adams models for a variety of automotive driveline systems and sub-systems, including park lock mechanisms, locking differentials, disconnect systems, gear-shift systems, and clutch packs.
- Apply expert-level skills in complex contact modeling to investigate and resolve transient dynamic issues.
- Develop full vehicle models to assess EDU control strategy, predict vehicle behavior, perform NVH behavior and calculate component loads.
- Perform design iterations and optimization studies to identify robust solutions that meet customer requirements.
- Correlate dynamic simulation results to vehicle and lab data to ensure model fidelity.
- Implement control strategies for motors and actuators, performing co-simulation with system models.
- Collaborate closely with design, NVH, and validation teams to provide clear, actionable design recommendations based on simulation results.
- Create and present detailed analytical reports to internal teams and external customers.
- Refine and advance current standard analysis methods, developing new CAE techniques to improve prediction fidelity and efficiency.
- Participate and contribute to program peer reviews, analytical DVP&R, design best practices, and lessons learned documentation.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required.
- 5+ years of hands-on ADAMS experience modeling complex, transient dynamic systems.
- Expert-level skills in ADAMS/View, with a deep specialization in complex contact modeling.
- Experienced incorporating flexible bodies (FEM) into MBD simulations.
- Proven experience simulating the dynamics of automotive driveline or powertrain systems.
- Proficiency in using MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape for developing 1D models and control system integration.
- A deep theoretical understanding of multibody dynamics, contact mechanics, friction modeling, and numerical methods.
- Ability to interact with CAD systems (NX/Unigraphics or similar)
