Description

Join our passionate automation team as we build cutting-edge solutions to help drive the quality of one of the world’s most widely used location services. This role requires Android development experience and strong ownership of test automation frameworks and infrastructure. You’ll design and build robust test apps and harnesses, collaborate cross-functionally, and play a key leadership role in the quality validation of Maps SDKs and APIs on Android platforms. We’re looking for an Android engineer with deep testing experience - someone who has built and shipped production apps, and also architected or contributed significantly to test automation frameworks. You’ll work closely with internal engineering teams to simulate client applications, identify issues early, and deliver test infrastructure that enables scalable, repeatable validation across platforms. If you enjoy owning technical strategy, writing production-grade Android code, and creating high-leverage test tooling, this role is for you.

DESCRIPTION

In this role, you will play a key role in designing and developing automation frameworks and tools to validate Android SDKs, APIs, and applications. You will collaborate closely with developers and quality engineers to improve test coverage, reliability, and efficiency. Your responsibilities will include: * Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks and tools to validate Android SDKs and APIs. * Build custom test apps and harnesses to simulate partner applications and validate platform behavior. * Create, execute, and maintain automated test suites covering functional, integration, and regression scenarios. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify gaps, drive architectural test improvements, and promote continuous testing. * Analyze test results, debug failures, and work with engineering teams to resolve root causes. * Represent Apple Maps in Android automation efforts across Apple Maps, collaborating with internal teams and partners to scale platform-level quality initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • 5+ years of experience in Android application development using Java and/or Kotlin.

    • Demonstrated ability to both build Android features and create automation infrastructure to validate them.
    • Proven experience developing test apps or test harnesses for Android platforms.
    • Deep understanding of Android internals, app lifecycles, instrumentation, and system-level debugging.
    • Hands-on experience with automation frameworks like Espresso, UI Automator, or Appium.
    • Familiarity with CI/CD systems, Gradle, Git, and modern dev workflows.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal direction.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience building automation infrastructure or SDK validation frameworks from the ground up.
    • Experience with location, mobility, or mapping platforms is a plus.
    • Familiarity with large-scale quality engineering environments and test data pipelines.
    • Ability to author clear documentation and example test apps for internal SDK users.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction and design decisions from a quality perspective.
