Description

INTRODUCTION:

Windana provides connected services for more people in need.
We provide services across Victoria for adults and young people experiencing alcohol and other drug harms, family violence, mental health challenges and social disadvantage.
Our Model of Care puts clients at the centre of what we do to create positive change in people’s lives. We work with families, communities and other organisations to deliver trauma informed, equitable, culturally safe and integrated services based on evidence and practice wisdom.
By intervening early and creating purposeful partnerships, we help clients achieve improved outcomes while reducing demand on acute services. And we are influencing policy, practice and research to help shape better systems for clients. Together, we influence the broader system for a more positive and connected future.

DESCRIPTION:

About the program
The Geelong Medicare Mental Health Centre in partnership with Windana delivers free, accessible, and immediate support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, substance use concerns, and psychological distress—without the need for a referral, appointment, or Medicare card.
As a walk-in service, the Centre offers a safe, inclusive, and person-centred environment where individuals, families, and carers can access timely assistance during periods of acute distress or crisis. The multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to provide evidence-based, trauma-informed care that responds to immediate needs while also supporting pathways to ongoing recovery and wellbeing.
Is this your next career opportunity?
The Senior AOD Clinician plays a pivotal role in leading clinical responses, offering assessment and intervention, and supporting integrated care planning for individuals with complex mental health and substance use needs. By offering timely interventions and coordinated care pathways, the Centre plays a critical role in strengthening mental health outcomes across the Geelong community.
With a dual report to the Bayside Manager and GMMHC Clinical Lead, the Senior AOD Clinician works as part of a multi-disciplinary recovery-focused team. The Clinician will provide evidence – based AOD Interventions, including assessment, care planning, counselling, harm minimisation and relapse prevention strategies. The role aims to:
Support individuals and families to reduce the harms associated with alcohol and other drug use.
Promote recovery, resilience, and improved mental health outcomes through collaborative, trauma-informed, and culturally safe practices.
Contribute to the development and delivery of integrated care pathways in line with the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
Work in partnership with local health, community, and social services to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
Build capacity within the GMMHC team by sharing AOD expertise, delivering internal training, contributing to reflective practice, and supporting the integration of AOD-informed approaches across clinical and non-clinical roles.
