Job Title: Senior Application Oracle Database Administrator Location: West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) Employment Type: Temporary / Contract (IT Staffing Services) About the Role The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Application Oracle Database Administrator to join our team on a temporary contract basis. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, management, and optimization of Oracle database systems that support essential WVDOT operations. You will provide technical leadership, assist programming staff with PL/SQL debugging, and ensure high availability and performance of database environments. Key Responsibilities Maintain and manage Oracle database systems to ensure high availability, performance, and security Provide connectivity to Oracle databases for applications and users Assist programming staff in debugging triggers, procedures, functions, and packages (PL/SQL code) Optimize SQL execution for Oracle SQL procedures, functions, packages, and triggers Write and maintain UNIX/LINUX shell scripts in HP UNIX and/or RedHat LINUX environments Perform data modeling to support application development and database design Utilize Oracle RMAN for backup operations, including full and incremental backups and database cloning Administer Oracle Warehouse Builder for data integration and ETL processes Implement and manage fine-grain access control in Oracle databases Collaborate with application analysts, project managers, and business stakeholders to support database-related needs Requirements Required Qualifications Education (one of the following): Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution, OR Minimum of six (6) years of equivalent work experience as a direct substitution for the Bachelor's degree Oracle Database Maintenance & Management: Minimum of ten (10) years of experience with the maintenance and management of Oracle database systems Oracle Connectivity: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in providing connectivity to an Oracle database PL/SQL Debugging Assistance: Minimum of five (5) years providing assistance to programming staff in debugging triggers, procedures, functions, and packages (PL/SQL Code) SQL Optimization: Minimum of five (5) years of experience optimizing SQL execution for Oracle SQL procedures, functions, packages, and triggers UNIX/LINUX Shell Scripting: Minimum of five (5) years of experience writing and maintaining UNIX/LINUX shell scripts in HP UNIX and/or RedHat LINUX environment Data Modeling: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Data Modeling Oracle RMAN Backup: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the utilization of Oracle RMAN backup to include full and incremental backups and cloning a database Oracle Warehouse Builder: Minimum of two (2) years of experience using and administering Oracle Warehouse Builder Fine Grain Access Control: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in fine grain access control in an Oracle database Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work with project managers, business analysts, application analysts, programming staff, and business stakeholders Preferred Skills (Not Required but a Plus) Experience in transportation or government IT environments Oracle certification (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional - DBA) Experience with Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) or Oracle Data Guard Familiarity with public sector database security and compliance standards
