Job Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Association Director of Aquatics, the Senior Aquatics Director will lead and oversee our aquatic programs, including two seasonal outdoor pools. This position requires previous experience in aquatic management, program development, and staff leadership with the ability to recruit and manage a staff of 70+ staff members.
The Senior Aquatic Director will be responsible for the continued development and implementation of high-quality aquatic programs that align with the YMCA’s mission and values. This role requires strong, organizational and time management skills to ensure that participants and families have an exceptional experience at the YMCA. The director will also be responsible for the administrative aspects of programming, including budget management, staff training, and compliance with safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Five or more years of aquatic management experience, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.
  • Must understand the basic concepts of a voluntary, non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff and accept a commitment to the YMCA mission.
  • Experience supervising staff and developing pool and class schedules is required.
  • Must have current certifications in: YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Oxygen Administration; YMCA Swim Instructor certification is preferred. Lifeguard Instructor required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications.

Must be 21 years of age, and have a valid driver’s license as well as the capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
