THE OPPORTUNITY:

WSP has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Archaeologist to join our Heritage team in British Columbia. As a Senior Archaeologist, you will work closely with the rest of the Heritage team to lead and manage projects throughout the province. You will gain valuable and diverse work experience as part of our province-wide Heritage team and will have opportunities to work on multidisciplinary projects that will contribute to your professional development. This is a senior position with responsibility for providing high-quality archaeology services and contributing to the strategic development of the BC archaeology business. Preference will be given to those candidates that have HCA permit-holding status in one of the three Culture Areas. Successful candidates will ideally be based in one of our BC offices , which include: Castlegar, Cranbrook, Fort St John, Kamloops, Kelowna, Langley, Nanaimo, Prince George, Rossland, Smithers, Terrace, Vancouver, and Victoria.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior and intermediate staff
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making and help define the future of the BC archaeology business as part of the BC heritage senior leadership team
  • Actively participate in building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous groups and communities throughout BC
  • Oversee and work with project teams to achieve the technical requirements and expectations of clients, Indigenous groups, and regulatory agencies
  • If HCA permit eligible, secure heritage inspection, investigation, or alteration permits
  • Liaise with regulators as needed, including the Archaeology Branch and BC Energy Regulator
  • Design, oversee, and manage archaeology projects and field programs
  • Work with both internal and external stakeholders to develop and manage project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Contribute to business development with both existing and prospective clients
  • Oversee and provide technical review of analysis and reporting to maintain a high level of quality
  • Participate in WSP’s Health & Safety program, demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff
