Description The Senior Architectural Designer or Project Architect plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing multiple complex architectural projects. This position requires extensive knowledge of architectural principles, design processes, and project management, particularly in the healthcare sector. The Senior Architectural Designer/Project Architect will lead teams, manage client relationships, ensure compliance with industry standards, and provide strategic oversight of project deliverables, from initial design to completion. Collaboration, leadership, and business development within the architectural practice are key elements of this role, making it an essential position for the firm's growth and success. Duties/Responsibilities: Lead and manage all aspects of multiple complex healthcare architectural projects, ensuring high standards for design, planning, and material approvals. Apply architectural expertise and sound knowledge across a wide array of assignments, ensuring best practices are followed in all aspects of the design process. Collaborate with internal and external teams, including engineers, consultants, and contractors, to achieve cohesive, innovative design solutions. Take charge of budget management, project schedules, and client communication, ensuring projects are completed within scope, on time, and within budget. Prepare design presentation materials and communicate effectively with client groups to ensure alignment on design vision and execution. Conduct code research, collaborate with regulatory agencies, and ensure compliance with environmental, safety, zoning, and aesthetic standards. Serve as the primary client liaison, building, managing, and nurturing strong relationships throughout the lifecycle of the project. Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs, and manage construction documentation. Be a thought leader by researching and investigating architectural concepts, driving innovation in healthcare design. Estimate fees, determine the scope of work, and prepare detailed proposals. Provide professional judgment in areas of contractual liability, ensuring all agreements are in compliance with industry standards and client expectations. Requirements Skills & Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, and other architectural software such as Procore or PlanGrid. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to supervise and mentor junior staff. Deep understanding of building technology fundamentals, relevant codes, and healthcare design standards. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to lead client meetings and manage stakeholder expectations. Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple complex projects simultaneously. Business development capabilities with expertise in healthcare practice areas. Education & Experience: Professional degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program. Registered as a licensed architect with 8-12 years of experience in architecture or design. Thorough experience in writing and editing specifications for architectural projects. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Architecture or a Dual Architecture/Interior Design Degree. Certifications in LEED, WELL, or other relevant areas indicating expertise in sustainable architecture and construction administration. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on design tasks and presentations. Capacity to visit construction sites for inspections, requiring bending, kneeling, and movement through uneven surfaces. Visual acuity for working on detailed drawings and computer screens for extended periods. Manual dexterity for handling architectural models, design tools, and materials.
