The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is made up of a team of experts who understand local communities and assess every property in Ontario. What we do provides the very foundation that municipalities use to base the property taxes needed to pay for the services we use every day.

Responsibilities

WHAT MAKES YOU GREAT FOR THIS ROLE?

You are an agile leader who can administer MPAC’s corporate assessment appeals system with external agencies, appellants and tax agents to facilitate the scheduling of appeals on a provincial basis.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Advocate on behalf of MPAC and assist Valuation / Other departments on litigation strategy, appeal preparation, and presentation before the Assessment Review Board (ARB)
  • Act as quasi counsel to assist MPAC staff in preparing for pre-hearings, mediations and full hearings/trials (such as, attend hearing events, advocate and negotiate with other parties)
  • Participate in the research, development and implementation of policies and procedures for the court/tribunal process, including all phases of litigation
  • Participate in the operation and coordination of MPAC’s corporate appeal Work Management System
  • Deliver training programs for valuation staff regarding new/amended techniques for the administration of appeals and process flow
  • Triage issues of appeal raised by tax payers, municipal representatives, and/or tax agents within the statement of issue phase of litigation
