Description

Working at Transurban is different; it’s a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city-sized solutions—building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads—to solve pressing transport challenges that are slowing cities down.
About the role
Help us optimise and elevate our infrastructure. We’re seeking a technically driven, detail-oriented Senior Asset Engineer to manage the performance of our Water and Wastewater Treatment plants across Transurban’s Australian markets. This pivotal role sits within our Asset Strategy team, supporting end-to-end asset strategies and ensuring operational, regulatory, and concession standards are met.
This is a hands-on role focused on engineering oversight, asset performance, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous improvement. You’ll make a measurable impact on how our infrastructure supports millions of road users every day.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Oversee asset condition monitoring and performance across Water and Wastewater Treatment plants
  • Execute detailed engineering design reviews, including P&IDs, specifications and process commissioning
  • Lead technical investigations and deliver actionable solutions for performance uplift and risk mitigation
  • Validate plant commissioning and ensure regulatory and design compliance
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation and system improvement
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Delivery, Environment, and Maintenance teams to meet deed and industry standards
  • Apply Reliability Centred Maintenance principles and root cause analysis
  • Develop lifecycle project requirements and drive continuous improvement in technical processes
  • Coordinate technical documentation and maintain data integrity
  • Support scenario-based risk assessments and asset integrity reviews

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering (required), with 7+ years in industrial, consulting, or design engineering roles
  • Proven experience in Water/Wastewater Treatment plant design and optimisation
  • Solid understanding of Australian environmental standards and water regulations
  • Strong ability to collaborate in cross-functional and team-based environments
  • Experience in asset condition monitoring, system analysis, and reliability modelling
  • Membership with Engineers Australia and commitment to ongoing professional development

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • Flexible working options, including the ability to purchase up to six weeks of additional leave each year
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), plus superannuation on unpaid leave
  • Career growth and leadership development opportunities
  • Wellbeing support—from Headspace to EAP and wellness facilities
  • Share offers and discounted insurance benefits
  • Team social events, volunteer days, and community give-back initiatives

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.
We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.
We strongly encourage applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people living with disability. If you require any adjustments or support during the recruitment process, please contact us on careers@transurban.com.
