Our ambition The Opportunity Role Overview The role is to work as one of the In-House Counsel lawyers in the General Counsel & Risk team. The team is based in London and Australia and covers all of the HSF Kramer offices. The team assists in ensuring that the firm develops and maintains the very highest standards in the manner in which the professional requirements of conduct, quality and integrity are applied in client relationships, in its management of risk and its compliance with regulatory obligations. The team also helps manage the legal risks of the operations of the firm. Broadly, you will be involved in the following as part of the team: · Ensuring compliance with the regulatory and practice compliance issues for the firm and advising in response to particular circumstances. · Advising internally on compliance policies and procedures. · Assisting lawyers and management to come to good risk-based decisions on practice related points · Preparing and delivering compliance and risk training and awareness programmes and inductions. Key Responsibilities Regulatory Advising on the regulatory requirements on the profession of lawyers in the jurisdictions in which we operate. Knowledge and Learning Management, preparation and delivery of risk and compliance training including e-learning and information bulletins. General risk and compliance for the Practice Groups Advising lawyers on practice specific issues that arise as they advise clients, such as opinions, escrows, conduct, billing. Advising fee earners on the terms on which they may engage with specific clients and reviewing key client terms or requests for bespoke terms or drafting. Answering questions and enquires from clients relating to our risk profile and regulatory position. Supporting the Business Services teams Working with business services teams to advise in relation to their support of legal practice. Advising our Business Services groups on legal issues relating to the entering into contracts with third parties. Qualifications, skills and experience A qualified lawyer of at least 5 years PQE with City practice experience. Ability to exercise sound judgment on both legal and commercial issues. Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines. Strong support and understanding of a law firm’s commercial imperatives. Excellent interpersonal skills – the person will liaise with both lawyers and business services groups, in each case at all levels of seniority and from all offices. Good presentation skills – delivery of training at all levels. An innovative mindset, curious about AI and emerging technologies.
