Description:
The opportunity
The Senior Associate plays the team lead role in the Global Trade Management team. They will be responsible for leading and working with a team of analysts and associates to manage all public assets’ trade processing, confirmation, settlement, and reporting. This role also participates in initiatives and projects affecting multiple units within Finance Operations and across other divisions at OTPP as required.
Who you’ll work with
The Senior Associate, Global Trade Management will work with other analysts, associates alongside with managers in Global Trade Management, supporting the Senior Manager and Director by making standard operational decisions and providing recommendations to ensure the successful delivery of objectives for the team, department, and division. Will also work with other internal stakeholders in OTPP including a diverse group of professionals in Finance, Investment, Compliance, Legal as well as external parties such as custodians, brokers, vendors.
What you’ll do
- Being the team lead in global trade operations, coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure all critical aspects of the trade lifecycle are completed, including pre-trade analysis, trade capture, confirmation, and settlement of cash and derivative products.
- Assist in supervising the daily operations including reviewing and signing off on daily transactions and key controls, handling complex issues referred by the team members, provide guidance and necessary support/escalation to address and resolve issues.
- Participate in production support for various processes and systems. Identify, analyze, and resolve issues. Demonstrate “Subject Matter Expertise” in understanding departmental processes and systems, sharing knowledge with team members.
- Responsible for maintaining and strengthening the key internal and external relationships with OTPPs Investment teams, custodians, external brokers/vendors, clearing and executing brokers, as well as external investment managers. Establish, manage relationships and measure success through the use of KPI’s and metrics
- Onboard new products, new features of existing products, and new markets to support investment strategies. Act as a lead to facilitate and coordinate the onboarding process with internal and external stakeholders. Initiate, lead and manage continuous process improvement to enhance the onboarding experience for internal stakeholders.
- Play a catalyst role in gaining and sharing relevant global market knowledge and expertise. Responsible for establishing and maintaining the relevant knowledge database for information sharing and reporting.
- Work on more complex, out of the ordinary deals which require in depth knowledge of the operational and settlement requirements to support the deal
- Support the execution of key projects and initiatives by researching requirements, analyzing alternative solutions, while assessing impacts to operational risks and processes, to provide recommended course of action
- Initiate, lead and manage process improvements to enhance internal processes and efficiency
- Support the development and growth of the team including the implementation of any operational enhancements.
- Ensure operational implications of new strategies and process improvements impacting systems and reporting are appropriately addressed
- Develop, maintain, and recommend changes to financial and operational controls to support financial reporting and reduced operational risk. Ensure up-to-date policies and procedures manuals are established and maintained.
- Responsible for the accuracy of data utilized by the company’s book of record, downstream reporting such as performance measurement, general ledger, risk analytics and regulatory compliance systems
- Provide guidance and lead a team of analysts and/or associates who are responsible for global trade management function. Responsible for coaching, knowledge sharing, on the job training as well as recommending external training and conferences for staff
- Ensure adequate and timely responses to inquiries from stakeholders.
What you’ll need
- Relevant university degree
- Professional designation CPA CA, CGA, CMA or CFA
- Significant experience (6+ years) within Investment Operations (accounting, finance, operations) preferably including at least 2 years in a team leadership capacity
- Extensive experience facilitating, coordinating, and consulting with a successful track record for process improvements
- Experience working with senior management in complex structures; ability to facilitate team-based decisions-making processes
- Successful track record for project planning and management and possesses the ability to be a key driver in implementing change across the operational groups.
- In-depth understanding of market structures and trading mechanisms for Fixed Income and Public Equities, and Derivatives Products including the roles and functions at custodians, clearing merchants and within various settlement markets.
- Experience with settlement processes and risk management in global markets, including bilateral settlements and the use of different mechanisms to mitigate settlement risks.
- Proven track record of managing relationships with custodians, brokers, and other financial intermediaries to ensure efficient trade execution and settlement.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to Fixed Income, Public Equities and Derivatives trading and settlement.
- Ability to analyze and interpret market data to support investment strategies and operational decisions.
- Knowledge of computerized systems to identify user system needs and maintain system controls.
- Possesses the ability to be a key driver in implementing change
- Excellent communication skills are required as this position deals with both internal and external contacts
- Ability to work with Investments and other internal stakeholders and balance governance and service role
