Senior Associate, Intellectual Property
Your role

You will be a part of our Band 1 ranked
Intellectual Property and Patent and Trade Mark Attorney
team. Working closely with our Partners and the wider team of lawyers and attorneys across all of our offices, you will gain exposure to the most complex and interesting contentious, regulatory and commercial transactions in the Australian market.
At Allens, we encourage our lawyers to find their niche and specialise in the areas in which they are interested, while building a strong foundation across all areas of intellectual property law.

As a Senior Associate in our IP practice group you will have the opportunity to be involved in the following.

  • Contentious and non-contentious matters, including patents, trade marks, copyright, designs, Australian Consumer Law, brand protection, anti-counterfeiting, confidential information and trade secrets enforcement, litigation, regulatory, IP licensing and transactional matters.
  • Work across teams to provide high-quality service to support client’s acquiring, managing, protecting, commercialising, enforcing and defending their intellectual property rights.
  • Work with our integrated Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys team to advise clients on the entire life cycle of IP assets, including registration, opposition, portfolio management, acquisitions, litigation, and enforcement.

We have permanent, full-time opportunities based in our Sydney and Melbourne offices. Hybrid working (60% in the office) is how we work however flexibility matters at Allens, so if you are seeking hybrid working or are looking for flexibility in your work, we would be happy to discuss what arrangements would work best for you.
About you

You will have:

  • Experience working in private practice in an intellectual property team in Australia. We also value in-house and overseas experience.
  • Been exposed to a range of IP work such as contentious patents, trade marks, copyright, confidential information, designs, IP licensing and M&A transactions.
  • Experience delegating work and supervising junior lawyers.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong drafting skills.
  • A desire to learn, grow, network and mentor others.
