Job Description
Summary:
The successful candidate sits within Ares Singapore and will be part of the Investment Operations Team in Asia. The Investment Operations group supports all aspects of investment support working very closely with the Investment team on both credit and private equity deals. The Investment Operations Team in Asia comprises Portfolio Managers (PM(s)) with each PM leading a deal from an operational perspective by working closely with the deal lead from Investment Team. Each PM thus holds a deal portfolio which he/she actively manages; including taking help from within the Team (e.g. Associates/Senior Associates) accordingly.
Primary Functions & Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide support in ensuring the investing infrastructure is ready for execution of investments. This include amongst others the following:
- Assist with onshore account openings with banks, custodians, intermediary platforms, and brokers;
- Assist with license applications specifically required for investing in onshore jurisdictions;
- Assist with KYC and AML compliance for accounts in India and other jurisdictions;
- Prepare tax residency applications for investing entities and ensure ongoing maintenance.
- Provide timely transaction management to key stakeholders (e.g. Investment Team) from an operational perspective; This includes assisting during pre-funding phase, approval processes, funding of transaction and post-funding monitoring/repatriation of receipts
- Works closely and assist PM in deal structuring and execution matters
- Effective stakeholder management (i.e. Investment team, Fund Accounting team, Asset Management Team, Compliance Team, Legal and Corporate Secretarial team, bankers, custodians other stakeholders) to ensure timelines of deal closing are adhered to
- Manage investment proceeds, ensuring timely receipt, effective repatriation, and necessary follow-up actions.
- Coordinate with the Investment Team and Asset Management Team on outstanding/delayed receipts and work together on resolution of such matters.
- Scheduling various committee meetings/board meetings and ensure investment minutes are drafted and followed up with
- Maintain operational records (centralized or decentralized) and control files of each investment
- Maintain and review monitoring trackers for various investment related controls and datapoints to ensure robust investment monitoring
- Assist in scaling long term capabilities, which could include technology applications for operational monitoring activities to be executed in an efficient and effective manner
- Keeping abreast with the changing regulations and analyzing its impact on the existing operations
- Participate in identifying, establishing and implementing strong processes, and robust operating models, systems and governance in deal execution activities from an operational perspective
- Any other operational duties required of the individual which could fall under the investment life cycle
Education:
- Bachelors degree required, preferably in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance; with exceptional academic record
- Other disciplines are also welcomed
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Accounting / finance background with at least 3 years post qualification experience
- Relevant experience in a similar role in a fund management company would be favourably considered
- Experience with Singapore regulations, international tax laws and good understanding of MAS Fund Management regime would be an added advantage
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Proficiency in MS Excel and Word
- Self-motivated, highly adaptable, proactive, highly detailed oriented, hands-on, solution oriented, display good judgement and logical decision making apart from highly developed technical skills
- Be both independent and a team player, being able to operate in a highly fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- A strong desire and personality to work and develop within an operations function
