ABOUT THE POSITION

The Milken Institute is looking for an analyst with policy experience who can work across the London office’s key policy priorities of infrastructure and growth, health and technology policy. The ideal candidate will have led or participated in a variety of projects, where they demonstrated strong analytical expertise and the capability to confidently communicate complex technical information to a diverse audience. The Senior Associate will also be engaged in helping senior team members build the Institute’s wider presence in Europe, through supporting the growing policy and programming’s team activities/projects

REQUIREMENTS

  • An undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) in a subject which employs quantitative research methods, such as Economics or another social science (or a master’s qualification which would demonstrate a similar skillset).
  • Excellent quantitative analytical skills, with experience of applying these skills to problem solving, using quantitative analysis to supplement qualitative evidence and imaginative theory building.
  • Experience of working in the civil service, a think tank, or a policy-related organization.
  • Understanding of how UK public policy works, a curiosity about finance, health, public policy, economics, and international affairs, as well as a passion for learning about new topics.
  • Excellent presentation skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts succinctly and with impact.
  • Demonstrated effective knowledge of project management or formal certification.
  • Ability to break down large problems into more meaningful questions and tasks.
  • Excited to learn about new ideas, thinkers and developments to add to our programming.
  • Knowledge of Powerpoint, Excel and MS Word with an appreciation of the power of communicating clearly through each medium.
  • Personal attitude that includes being positive, outgoing, entrepreneurial, action-oriented, flexible, with a willingness to adapt to changing situations.
  • An ability to build strong relationships with people from a wide range of professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage own workload, multitask, and show initiative when uncertain.
  • Excellent written skills, including the ability to contribute to reports and co-author op-eds and thought pieces.

WORKING CONDITIONS & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position will work in a professional office environment. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.

Responsibilities
  • Lead analytical projects and quantitative work to support the London office’s policy output, including ideating key audiences needed to affect the change which might underpin our policy and advocacy in areas such as infrastructure / economic growth, and health.
  • Work closely with policy colleagues to provide the evidence base for policy reports, op-eds, and thought pieces, including co-authoring novel research.
  • Seek out opportunities for the organisation to undertake new policy projects in its priority areas of infrastructure /economic growth, health, and Artificial Intelligence/tech.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership on how to eliminate policy barriers, identify new financial models, and identify innovations that can have real impact.
  • Provide support in drafting concept notes, funding proposals, and business cases for new research.
  • Stakeholder mapping and identifying thought leaders across policy, investment, academia, and other fields.
  • Contribute thinking on convening, both in Europe and to our global summits.
  • Support the events team on policy paper launch events.
