Description

The team at Advanced Space is leading humanity back to the Moon and pioneering innovative solutions in the space industry. Based in Westminster Colorado, this incredible team is looking for a Senior Astrodynamics and Satellite Navigation (ASN) Engineer who’s eager to push the state of the art in the aerospace industry.
The Senior Astrodynamics and Satellite Navigation (ASN) Engineer will lead mission design and navigation analyses for research projects, mission concept development, and flight missions spanning Earth orbit, cislunar, and interplanetary regimes. They apply expertise in astrodynamics, trajectory optimization, and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) to solve technical problems. ASN engineers work closely with other engineering teams to align design requirements with spacecraft performance and mission objectives.
Advanced Space is a rapidly growing, privately held business that incorporates our core values in all that we do. Advanced Space exists to support the sustainable exploration, development, and settlement of space and operates with four core values: We are customer obsessed and mission focused; when we see it, we solve it; we are one team, motivated by our vision; and we bring technical excellence and inexhaustible curiosity.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S./M.S./PhD in Aerospace Engineering (or related field) with a technical emphasis in astrodynamics, mission design, guidance navigation and control, dynamics, trajectory optimization and/or spacecraft systems.
  • 6-12 years of experience applying astrodynamics and mission design knowledge to research projects, mission concept development or flight missions.
  • Experience with orbit analysis tools, i.e., GMAT, STK, Freeflyer, Monte, Copernicus.
  • Significant coding experience in Python, Julia, MATLAB, or another high-level programming language.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: AWS
  • Operating Systems: Windows, Linux
  • Ability to work in an environment with rapidly evolving system requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Apply astrodynamics, mission design and trajectory optimization knowledge to a variety of design and analysis tasks for Earth-orbiting, cislunar, and interplanetary missions.
  • Design end-to-end missions across a variety of mission domains, leading a team of engineers through the full NASA review cycle (Mission Concept Review through Flight)
  • Lead and perform design/analyses including but not limited to trajectory design, launch period and window design, satellite constellation design, statistical dV estimation with Monte Carlo simulations, station or formation-keeping algorithm development, contingency mission design, proximity operations design and conjunction analysis.
  • Maintain and contribute to a multitude of software code bases (in Python, Julia, etc.) to perform the analyses and design tasks.
  • Utilize expert skills with astrodynamics software (GMAT, Copernicus, Monte, etc.) to perform the analyses and design tasks.
  • Summarize data using statistics and visualizations, interpret findings and make mission critical design decisions
  • Develop technical reports (both presentations and written reports) and communicate technical information to internal and external parties.
  • Contribute to innovation by supporting proposals, IR&D projects and internal tool development
