Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION
Our Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls group (EI&C) is seeking a Senior Automation and Controls Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be a team oriented and driven individual who will focus on ensuring that our client’s needs are met. This position requires coordination with engineering, design, and drafting teams within a multi-discipline project environment to solve challenging problems and produce the solid, dependable designs our clients expect. Excellent communications, problem solving, and organizational skills are considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
· Serve as project discipline Automation and Controls Lead. Requires project scope definition, management of discipline scope, schedule, and budget as well as close collaboration with all project team members to help ensure success of the overall project.
· Develop, program, and test PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for industrial automation applications.
· Develop HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screens for operator interface as required.
· Integrate industrial automation systems with other equipment and technologies (e.g., robotics, conveyors, sensors).
· Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to hardware, software, and process control systems.
· Participate in the design and optimization of new automation solutions to improve production efficiency and reduce downtime.
· Develop detailed control narratives, control logic functional descriptions, shutdown matrices, etc.
· Provide design support for control panel design and the develop of associated drawings (panel fabrication drawing, power distribution, wiring, and schematics).
· Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
· Continuously stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation
· Perform field investigations, provide construction supervision, and on-site commissioning support.
· Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. A technical diploma combined with demonstrated experience may be accepted as an alternative to a university level degree.
· Minimum of 10 years experience in industrial automation programming, including PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
· Strong knowledge of PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram).
· Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, OPC).
· Familiarity with control systems, robotics, and motion control applications.
· Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and process flow diagrams.
· Experience with Siemens, Rockwell Automation, or Schneider Electric platforms is a plus.
· Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Previous experience in the Food and Beverage, Pulp and Paper, and Power Generation sectors would be considered an asset.
· A valid driver’s license is required for travel to our client’s sites.
