JOB SUMMARY

The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world. We are looking for a Senior Automation Controls Engineer who will lead in the design, development, implementation and troubleshooting of automated industrial control systems with the Mapleton Foundry. This position will give expert input on standards to follow and instrumentation to be used in automation projects that are outside of their immediate scope of work as well as guide other automation engineers in their career development and projects. The Sr. Engineer will have a strong background in Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, pneumatics, hydraulics, and up-to-date standards surrounding this area that include but are not limited to: NEC, MFPA 70E/79, ISO 13849, and IEC 62061.

SKILLS YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Project Administration: Extensive knowledge of project administration best practices and ability to use organizational strategies, practices and tools for administering projects.
  • Quality Management: Extensive knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Problem Solving: Extensive knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Extensive knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application, or operation.
  • Knowledge of Robotics: Extensive knowledge of designing, programming, and operating robots for various applications; ability to utilize programming languages and robotics knowledge to automate the necessary operations of the organization.
  • Industrial Automation/Automatic Control: Extensive knowledge of various industrial automatic control systems, processes and methodologies in a manufacturing environment; ability to design, implement and maintain automatic production systems/processes to improve productivity and efficiency, as well as minimize human intervention.
  • Operations Standards, Procedures and Policies: Extensive knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
  • Robotics/Computer Controlled Machinery: Extensive knowledge of robotics technologies and computer-controlled machinery; ability to implement and operate robotics and computer controlled machinery in an automated manufacturing environment.

SUMMARY PAY RANGE:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.

Responsibilities
  • Lead projects to deploy automated systems; Provide subject matter expertise for programming, debug and troubleshoot robotic and automated systems that utilize Fanuc and Allen-Bradley instrumentation.
  • Partner with support teams for root cause corrective actions for application software troubleshooting. Will have ownership of application/software enhancements.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for automated system applications; maintain the standards and documentation for automated system applications.
