• In-depth hands-on experience with AWS RDS for at least two of the following database engines: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, Oracle, or SQL Server.
• Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices, including CI/CD and automation.
• Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
• Solid experience with database management, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, and security.
• Familiarity with database migration tools like Liquibase or Flyway.
• Strong understanding of AWS services relevant to database management, such as VPC, EC2, S3, CloudWatch, and IAM.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in an agile team environment.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

As a Consultant DevOps DBA, you will play a critical role in supporting our client’s banking technology initiatives by managing and optimizing database environments. Leveraging your prior experience at Capital One, you will apply DevOps principles to database administration, focusing on automation, infrastructure as code (IaC), and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) for database changes.
Your primary responsibilities will include the management of database systems hosted on AWS RDS. This role requires a strong blend of traditional DBA skills with modern DevOps practices to ensure database performance, security, and scalability in a cloud-native environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, deploy, and manage database instances on AWS RDS (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, Oracle).
• Implement and manage database infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Develop and maintain automated scripts and tools for database provisioning, patching, backup, and recovery.
• Monitor database performance, security, and availability, and proactively address any issues.
• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for database schema changes and data migrations using tools like Liquibase or Flyway.
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to optimize database queries, troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, and ensure application efficiency.
• Implement and enforce security best practices for database access, encryption, and compliance within the AWS environment.
• Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical production databases.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of documentation for database architecture, procedures, and best practices.
• Provide expert guidance on database solutions, capacity planning, and cost optimization on AWS.
