We are currently transforming Tentwenty into an AI-first digital agency.

We believe AI will fundamentally change software development. Increasingly, AI will generate significant parts of the code traditionally written manually by development teams.

But AI-generated software still needs excellent architecture, technical judgement, security, scalability and quality control.

That is why we are looking for an exceptional Senior Backend Developer.

This is not a traditional backend development position.

We are looking for someone who can become the technical brain behind complex digital projects—someone capable of designing architecture, guiding AI-assisted development, reviewing technical quality and communicating confidently with customers.

The Role

Your role combines:

Solution Architecture + Backend Engineering + AI-Assisted Development + Quality Ownership + Client & Project Leadership

You will help determine how our applications and platforms should be designed before development starts and ensure that what is ultimately delivered is robust, secure, scalable and maintainable.

You will still write code when needed, particularly for technically challenging or business-critical functionality, but we do not believe that manually producing code will remain the primary responsibility of senior engineers.

Your judgement is more valuable than your keyboard.

What You Will DoSolution & System Architecture

You will design the technical foundations of our digital products.

This includes:

• Backend and application architecture.
• API architecture.
• Database architecture and data modelling.
• Authentication and authorization.
• Third-party integrations.
• Headless CMS architecture.
• Cloud and infrastructure decisions.
• Performance and scalability.
• Security.
• Logging, monitoring and observability.
• Integration of AI services and models.
• Technical documentation and architecture diagrams.

You should be able to take a business requirement and determine how the entire system should work technically.

AI-First Engineering

AI should be a core part of your development workflow.

You will:

• Use modern AI coding tools extensively.
• Design systems and specifications that allow AI agents to execute development tasks effectively.
• Review and validate AI-generated code.
• Build guardrails around AI-assisted development.
• Use AI for testing, debugging, documentation and code review.
• Explore agentic software-development workflows.
• Identify opportunities to automate traditional engineering activities.
• Help Tentwenty continuously improve its AI development methodology.

We are not interested in simply using AI to autocomplete code faster.

We want to rethink how software gets built.

Technical Quality

As a senior technical leader, you will ultimately be responsible for ensuring the backend systems we deliver meet a high engineering standard.

You will review:

• Architecture.
• Code quality.
• Security.
• Performance.
• Scalability.
• Database design.
• APIs.
• Integrations.
• Error handling.
• Testing.
• Deployment architecture.
• AI-generated code.

You should be capable of quickly identifying when something is technically wrong—even when the code appears to work.
