Key Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services that support large-scale, real-time data processing
• Develop APIs and platform capabilities used across customer-facing products
• Improve platform performance, reliability, and operational resilience
• Contribute to architectural decisions that support significant future growth
• Modernise existing systems and reduce technical debt across core services
• Work closely with engineering, AI, and product teams to deliver new capabilities
• Optimise database performance and data flow across production environments
• Enhance cloud infrastructure and deployment processes
• Take ownership of production stability, monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Promote engineering best practices, testing standards, and maintainable code
• Identify scalability bottlenecks and propose pragmatic technical solutions
• Operate with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced product environment

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience developing backend applications with Python
• Expertise in building web services and APIs using modern backend frameworks
• Strong knowledge of relational database design, optimisation, and performance tuning
• Experience designing systems that handle large volumes of live or event-driven data
• Hands-on experience working with cloud-native infrastructure and containerised environments
• Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, and reliability principles
• Experience working within CI/CD-driven engineering environments
• Background in product-focused startups or scaling technology businesses
• Exposure to AI-powered products, data platforms, computer vision, or industrial technology
• Experience working with distributed systems or high-throughput processing pipelines
• Strong ownership mentality with the ability to make sound technical decisions independently
