ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Minimum 8 years of proven professional experience as a backend developer, including technical leadership.
  • Strong expertise in Java and Spring framework.
  • Proficiency in containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience designing and developing scalable backend systems and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead incident management, root cause analysis, and architectural decision-making.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and mentoring skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in data analytics and handling large datasets.
  • Familiarity with AWS services and cloud architectures.
  • Knowledge of Python and Ruby on Rails.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Backend Engineer at SkinVision, you will be a cornerstone of our technical leadership. You will lead the development and maintenance of our backend services, driving architectural decisions, coaching team members, and ensuring system reliability, scalability, and security. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance our platform, playing a vital role in improving the lives of millions through accessible skin health tools.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, build, and maintain high-quality backend services and APIs that support SkinVision’s platform.
  • Collaborate with product, frontend, and AI teams to translate business needs and user requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Optimize backend systems to ensure high performance, reliability, and responsiveness under varying loads.
  • Develop secure, compliant, and robust data protection mechanisms to safeguard sensitive healthcare data, ensuring adherence to industry and company standards.
  • Participate in design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance to deliver fully functional, high-quality software solutions.
  • Take full ownership of backend services you develop or are assigned, ensuring they are consistently maintained, enhanced, and aligned with company goals.
  • Manage the resolution of production incidents and handle bug fixes, ensuring quick recovery and minimal disruption to users.
  • Lead root cause analysis and ensure documentation and post-mortem discussions are shared across the technology team.
  • Continuously improve backend architecture, performance, and security through proactive monitoring, testing, and adoption of new technologies.
  • Drive engineering excellence across infrastructure design, deployment automation, and fault-tolerant system operations.
  • Champion backend security, guiding engineers in secure design patterns, threat modeling, and compliance readiness.
  • Mentor and coach backend engineers, driving technical upskilling in backend systems, infrastructure, and security.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the engineering team, contributing to technical discussions and code reviews.
  • Ensure that all decisions related to backend development, including architecture, technical challenges, and incident handling, are communicated transparently.
