Full-Time/Regular
We are seeking a Principal Backend Software Engineer to join our product team driving the development of a next-generation, multi-cloud cybersecurity system for a U.S. Department of Defense program. This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering, mission enablement, and systems integration with an objective of designing and delivering high-performance, secure, and scalable backend systems that directly power operational outcomes. You will architect and implement services that integrate data pipelines, cyber tools, and mission applications across AWS, Azure, and edge environments, enabling our operators to detect, analyze, and respond to threats in real time. This is a hands-on, high-impact engineering role where your software will go from whiteboard to operational deployment in some of the most demanding environments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of backend software engineering, with significant experience in mission-critical or distributed system environments.
  • Proficiency in Go, Java, or Python
  • Experience building high-performance APIs (REST, gRPC, or GraphQL) and integrating them with complex data systems.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and security concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Proven track record leading projects from architecture to operational deployment.
  • Experience in cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), including managed services, networking, and scaling strategies.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II or III certification (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, Security+ CE), or obtain to obtain one within 90 days).
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Prior experience with cybersecurity-focused backend systems or defensive cyber operations tooling.
  • Knowledge of edge computing, disconnected operations, or cross-domain data transfer solutions.
  • Background in DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Working knowledge of data engineering pipelines.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of distributed, cloud-native backend services and APIs that power multi-cloud cybersecurity operations.
  • Create high-throughput, secure pipelines to ingest, process, and analyze cyber telemetry data from AWS, Azure, on-premise, and edge sources.
  • Translate operational requirements into deployable software solutions, ensuring they integrate with our core cyber platform and perform reliably under mission conditions.
  • Develop and maintain robust API frameworks and integrations with cybersecurity sensors, analytics tools, and operational dashboards, ensuring secure interoperability across security enclaves.
  • Implement microservices architectures, caching strategies, and database optimizations for low-latency, high-availability operations.
  • Drive features from architecture and development through testing, deployment, and sustainment in both development and production environments.
  • Collaborate with mission operators and integrators to deploy software into live operational environments, tuning configurations for performance, resilience, and security.
