Description

At Corbion, we exist to champion preservation in all its forms, preserving food and food production, health, and our planet.
Are you passionate about sustainability? Would you like to make a difference with your Process Design knowledge and experience in Corbion’s mission to Preserve what Matters? As Senior Process Design Specialist you will work in the Process Technology group, one of the core technologies of Corbion’s Innovation Center, at our location in Gorinchem. This is the largest R&D site of Corbion world-wide with labs, office space and a pilot plant. On this site, the largest lactic acid derivative production facility is also found, serving our core business units. Finally, the site also accommodates the plant which serves biomedical applications in our Health & Nutrition business.
Corbion Innovation Center’s Process Technology group is focused on creating value in innovation by exploring, developing, (re-)designing, optimizing and scaling up of both new and existing processes, or its parts, as well as support process implementation in Operations. Sustainability-driven, computer-aided process design is a key discipline for enabling and accelerating innovation in process technology and optimizing operation in a lean way. The discipline covers all key activities, from model-based experimental design to creation of digital process twins for optimizing operation, as well as comparison of different process alternatives and selection of the optimal process route as basis for techno-economic and sustainability evaluation.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Process Design Specialist with a passion for innovation and improvement, knowledge generation and learning.

In addition to your educational achievements on a MSc graduate level at least, or preferably higher, a successful candidate for the Senior Specialist level will meet the below-mentioned criteria. In lieu of experienced applicants, job seniority level can be reduced to Process Design Specialist level - prospective, motivated candidates with relevant background but not meeting all the required criteria entirely are still encouraged to apply.

  • At least 5 years of industrial work experience in Process Technology, with emphasis on developing and applying process modelling tools for process design
  • Ability to understand the relevant physico-chemical phenomena in the system, define the necessary mathematical framework and program it in adequate programming software for solution; strong preference for candidates with practical experience in model implementation and validation
  • Proficiency in equation-based modelling software, preferably gPROMS software
  • Experience in techno-economic evaluations, (bio-)process design and unit operation selection and design, preferably with focus on bio-reactor design
  • Experience in supporting Operations and Engineering teams with (computer-aided) process engineering, preferably through direct involvement in FEL engineering deliverable preparation (heat & mass balances, block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams), start-up, operation and troubleshooting activities
  • Passion for innovation and sustainability with eagerness to learn, acquire new skills and convey knowledge to junior colleagues
  • Strong conceptual thinking skills, complemented by good analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Proactive person, committed to deliver on promises
  • Team player, interested in working in multi-disciplinary project teams, with ability to engage with people from different business functions
  • Good communication skills with intercultural sensitivity awareness and fluency in English (oral and written)
  • Availability for international travel (up to 15%)

You will build insight and know-how in multiple fields of Process Technology expertise, mainly by focusing on:

  • Executing projects/workstreams to steer the design and optimization of new or existing processes
  • Take an active role in the generation of process (step) alternatives and leading role in defining the approach, necessary (flowsheet) model infrastructure and simulations for techno-economic and sustainability evaluation
  • Develop, validate and optimize mechanistic and/or (semi-)empirical models of Unit Operations to accurately represent underlying process phenomena and assess impact on the equipment and overall process design
  • Support research, engineering, and operation by leading tailor-made (dynamic) modelling efforts, for example to assess the impact of process deviations (e.g. fate of impurities) or address non-steady state conditions (e.g. plant start-up) on plant operation
  • Reinforce and grow Sustainable Process Design competence by improving visibility and applications within Corbion. This includes discovering new applicable support areas using existing infrastructure, as well as bringing forward new computer aided process design functionalities and tools to Corbion communit
