QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Resource Management, or equivalent degree program, or an Environmental Technology/technical diploma, or equivalent diploma program.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience working in vegetation and/or wetland ecology with previous consulting experience.
  • Registered Professional Biologist; RPBio or PBio designation with a Pro-10 organization (i.e. ASPB or AIA) in Alberta.
  • Experience working in North America (Canada and USA) would be an asset.
  • Accreditation as an authenticating wetland practitioner would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of regulatory framework within Alberta relating to vegetation, wetlands, and reclamation.
  • Demonstrated experience in completing and authorizing wetland regulatory submissions under the Alberta Wetland Policy and Water Act.
  • Proven experience in conducting reclamation assessments, developing reclamation plans, and preparing reclamation certificate applications in accordance with various regulatory bodies in Alberta.
  • Proficiency in plant identification and ability to perform fieldwork in remote, rugged locations under diverse environmental conditions.
  • Industry experience in sectors such as pipelines, upstream and downstream oil and gas facilities, mining, infrastructure, or renewable energy projects is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing proposals, work plans, and creating cost estimates.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Advanced technical writing skills, with experience as a senior reviewer and authenticating professional of technical reports.
  • Proficient in computer applications and software relevant to the role.
  • Project management experience considered an asset.
  • Self-starter and flexible team player. Reliable and motivated. Ability to work within a team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical direction and regulatory guidance for various projects and clients in Alberta and BC.
  • Prepare permit/approval applications and obtain authorizations.
  • Interpret and advise on regulatory guidelines in the US and around the globe when needed.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
  • Author and/or Senior review discipline specific technical reports, workplans, cost estimates, and proposals.
  • Conducting data analysis and interpretation.
  • Work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Mentoring team members to develop their technical and project skills.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Participate in fieldwork as needed.
  • Participate in business development activities.
  • Travel as required for various projects.
