Description
We Are Hiring! We are looking for an experienced Bogie Design & Validation Engineer to lead the design, improvement, and testing of bogie systems for rolling stock. The ideal candidate has a strong background in vehicle dynamics, suspension design, and structural optimization, combined with hands-on experience in testing, simulation, and supplier collaboration. Join our team to drive innovation, enhance ride quality, and ensure the highest standards in railway engineering. Your Responsibilities Bogie Design & Improvement Lead design of new bogie architectures or enhancements to existing bogie designs, focusing on weight optimization, ride quality, durability, noise/vibration, and manufacturability. Propose and evaluate improvements to suspension systems, frame structures, damping, wheelset integration, primary and secondary suspension. Use or coordinate simulation, CAD/FEA, multi‑body dynamics, and thermal/structural analyses to support design choices. Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices in design, validation, and reliability. Develop Bogies “in-house” engineering capability analysing gaps and proposing improvements in process and tools. Testing & Validation Manage instrumented bogie dynamic and static testing: ride quality, track interaction, hysteresis, fatigue under real service loads. Analyse test data, correlate with simulation, and feedback findings into design improvements or repairs. Oversee homologation or certification activities related to bogies and their components. Component Validation Define and execute validation plans for key bogie components (axle‑boxes, wheels, frames, dampers, springs, bearings, etc.). Oversee test rigs, fatigue and load tests, non‑destructive testing, metallurgical inspection. Ensure compliance with relevant railway standards and norms (UIC, EN, ISO, TSI, etc.). Heavy Repair & Refurbishment Assess bogie units for repair: condition assessment, failure/fatigue analysis, refurbishment vs. replacement decisions. Ensure repair work meets safety, durability, and life‑extension goals, with documentation and quality traceability. Collaboration & Supplier Management Interface with suppliers for component supply, taking part in design reviews, technical specifications, and quality audits. Work with manufacturing and maintenance teams to ensure design improvements and repair methods are practical and cost‑efficient. Project Management & Documentation Plan and manage projects related to design improvements, heavy repairs, and validation with strong schedule discipline aligning with company processes. Prepare technical specifications, BOMs, technical reports, design review documentation, DFMEA. Your Profile Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Minimum 8–10 years of experience in bogie or rolling stock design, testing, or validation. Proven track record in bogie architecture development, suspension design, and vehicle dynamics. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, structural design, and materials (steel, composites, cast components). Proficiency in 3D CAD (CATIA, Siemens NX, or similar) and FEA tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, or comparable). Experience with multi-body dynamics simulations (SIMPACK, Adams/Rail, or similar). Deep understanding of fatigue, noise/vibration (NVH), and ride quality optimization principles. Familiarity with railway standards and certifications (UIC, EN, ISO, TSI, etc.). Experience in testing, validation, and correlation of simulation results. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional and international teams. Experience in supplier management, technical reviews, and manufacturing support. Leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers and promoting best practices. Fluent in English; additional European languages are an advantage. Willingness to travel occasionally to test sites, suppliers, or manufacturing facilities. Why Join Wyss&Lila?
