JOB OVERVIEW

The Gitwangak Education Society is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Bookkeeper to manage the financial operations for all education programs within our organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a multi-department environment, understands fund accounting, and is comfortable handling everything from payroll to year-end audit preparation.
As a key member of our team, you will ensure financial accuracy, maintain compliance with funding agency requirements, and provide timely reporting to management and the Board of Directors.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 4 years related bookkeeping/accounting experience (combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skills
  • Experience with Adagio Accounting and Paydirt Payroll software
  • Knowledge of EFTs and Indigenous Services Canada (formerly INAC) program funding requirements
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work collaboratively with staff and leadership
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality

Responsibilities
  • Manage all financial operations across multiple departments using fund accounting principles
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, ROEs, source deduction remittances, WorkSafe submissions, and T4s
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations monthly
  • Process accounts payable, including invoice entry, cheque preparation, and deposits
  • Manage accounts receivable and funding entries
  • Collaborate with the Administrator and department managers on funding agency reporting
  • Prepare for and support annual audit processes
  • Develop budgets, financial projections, and monthly reports for managers and the Board
  • Provide monthly financial statements and expenditure tracking to the Board of Directors
  • Create and maintain financial reports to support program and operational decision-making
  • Monitor budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with approved allocations
  • Stay updated on financial best practices and regulatory requirements relevant to Indigenous education programs
