Bring your strong financial and accounting expertise to this exciting opportunity at an agency of the Ontario Government. We are looking for a Senior Financial Officer, also called a Senior Bookkeeper, to fill an immediate six-month vacancy in our busy finance/accounting team.
Please note this role is 100% in office, located in mid-town Toronto
About the job As Senior Financial Officer, you will:
- provide accounting and financial analysis to ensure accurate financial records
- prepare financial documents (e.g., general ledger, journal entries, trial balance, bank reconciliation, GST/HST, CPP) and coordinate month-end closing procedures, including accruals
- use accounting software (e.g., Sage/AccPac, Crystal Reports, Access) to generate financial reports and analyze trends and variances.
- guide the Financial Coordinator by reviewing accounts payable entries for accuracy
- assist the Controller with the annual audit by preparing draft financial statements, year-end audit working papers, balance sheet reconciliations, and comparative analyses of revenues and expenditures
- advise management and staff on the OPS Procurement Directive requirements
- research and analyze financial issues to develop and implement financial controls, procedures and policies and recommend improvements to existing policies and procedures
What you bring to the team
- Senior bookkeeping experience
- Financial knowledge (generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and techniques; federal legislative requirements to prepare GST/HST, income tax and CPP remittances)
- Knowledge of the Ontario Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive and the OPS Procurement Directive
- Knowledge of financial materials (e.g., general ledger, journal entries, trial balance, bank reconciliations) to coordinate month-end closing procedures, including accruals
- Knowledge of financial accounting software, spreadsheet software and databases, such as Sage/AccPac, Crystal Reports, Access, and Excel to create and generate financial reports and analyze issues, trends and variances. Experience with other financial software will also be considered.

- Interpersonal and teamwork skills to communicate effectively with staff and management on financial issues, provide technical guidance, and work collaboratively as part of the accounting/finance team
- Communication skills to prepare financial reports and emails.
This position reports to the Director, Business Affairs & Research, with day-to-day supervision by the Controller
