Reporting to the Construction Services Engineer, the Senior Bridge Construction Engineer is responsible for the supervision of Structures Project Engineers; contract administration and construction oversight of complex, major structure projects on the capital program, including new construction and major rehabilitation; and managing complex and challenging projects on the capital program, from planning through preliminary design and detailed design.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Must be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, travel by ground and air and be away from home for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer in extreme temperatures.
  • Must be capable of performing physical requirements of position, including standing for extended periods of time, lifting up to 25 kg, and wearing protective equipment.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor-level degree in Civil Engineering (Structural).
  • Experience working with health and safety policies, legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with tendering, contract administration and construction inspection of complex major and minor bridge projects including construction procedures and methodologies.
  • Project management experience specifically for major bridge and structure projects in the preliminary design and detailed design phases.
  • Knowledge with bridge design principles, hydraulic engineering, and geotechnical engineering.
  • Supervision experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Verbal communication skills including the ability to deal with professional staff, engineering consultants, contractors, major stakeholders and the general public.
  • Written communication skills including the ability to prepare complex documents.

Duties:
This position is responsible for the administrative and functional supervision of Structures Project Engineers and Engineering Interns in the Branch, bridge contract administration and bridge construction oversight of complex, major structure projects on the capital program, including new construction and major rehabilitation projects, through the detailed application of structural, hydraulic and geotechnical engineering principles as well as enforcement of environmental and safety requirements. This position will also manage and assist with complex and challenging projects on the capital program, from planning through preliminary and detailed design, recommend updates to the technical construction specifications and standard design details, and assist in the development of training programs for Branch and Department personnel related to bridge construction/rehabilitation engineering and contract administration and construction inspection processes.
