Description

ABOUT US

Wilde Consulting Engineers is an established, family owned civil and structural engineering consultancy, founded in 1980. Over the years, we’ve grown to become one of the UK’s leading independent firms, delivering innovative and reliable engineering solutions.
We work with a wide range of public and private sector clients including local authorities, contractors, and government agencies. Our projects span assessments, designs, feasibility studies, and technical advisory roles on major infrastructure schemes.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Rail & Highway Structures team based in Stockport. Our workload is varied with projects located both locally in the north west, throughout the UK and overseas.
Projects vary from impactful local schemes to multi-million pound contracts and include bridges, highways, and rail schemes. These projects are delivered for both public sector and private clients including Network Rail, TfGM and many local authorities.
You would join a small, close-knit team and contribute to solving engineering challenges. A typical week could include preparing feasibility studies for new structures, undertaking detailed analysis and design calculations, and managing structural inspections.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with the ICE, IStructE, or similar (or working towards).
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in bridge design and assessment.
  • Strong knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, and other key design standards.
  • Ability to produce and review structural calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience with bridges, culverts, retaining walls, tunnels, or other major infrastructure assets.
  • Confidence in mentoring junior staff and providing constructive feedback.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage rail and highway structures projects from initial concept to delivery.
  • Review calculations, drawings, specifications and reports in line with Network Rail and DMRB standards.
  • Conduct and manage inspections and assessments.
  • Provide engineering recommendations to support asset management decisions.
  • Support and mentor junior members of staff.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to align technical delivery with project goals.
