Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Bachelor-level degree in Engineering (Civil, preferred) or equivalency recognized by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba with appropriate scope of practice in bridge engineering
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s licence
  • Must be able to work flexible and extended hours, travel throughout the province and be away from home for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to respond to on-call duties, which includes accident and emergency response

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience in inspection of complex, major and minor highway bridges, and Highway Bridge sized culverts
  • Experience in inspections using the Ontario Structures Inspection Manual (OSIM), the Ontario Structure Rehabilitation Manual (OSRM), and applicable standards for the inspection of concrete, structural steel, and timber structures
  • Experience in project management, specifically for bridge assignments (major and minor).
  • Experience in reading and interpreting bridge design drawings and specifications
  • Supervisory experience with the ability to mentor junior staff
  • Excellent written communication skills including writing technical documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative with progressive responsibility and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with professional staff, engineering consultants, contractors, major stakeholders and the general public

Duties:
Reporting to the Inspection & Maintenance Services Engineer, the Senior Inspection Engineer is a critical role in the Branch ensuring the annual inspection program is carried out in accordance with the Department’s Inspection Policy, and providing training for Inspection staff to meet current industry inspection standards. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of the structures inspection staff, the inspection administration, and oversight of inspection projects involving complex, major and minor bridges, and bridge sized culverts; and management of engineering service provider projects (Level 2 and Level 3 inspections) on the preservation program. This position is also responsible for ensuring durability issues are considered throughout the design process.
